OK, guys, you said on the main page that you needed info on Tezuka
manga in portuguese and I'm glad to help.

As of now, Tezuka has only been published in portuguese on Brazil. Two
brazilian publishers have published Tezuka manga:

JBC (Japan-Brazil Company) has published Princess Knight as "A Princesa e o Cavaleiro" (literally "The Princess and the Knight") about 4 years ago.
In 8 issues, each half of a japanese volume (I'm not sure whose "version"
of Princess Knight it is), very small format (4' x 6', I believe), cheap
paper, sold at newsstands. It was the very first Tezuka manga in Brazil
(and in portuguese), and reportedly sold badly. The publisher seems to
have given up on Tezuka after that.

The much better brazilian published Conrad then published Tezuka's bio
(the one done by the studios after his death, which has also been
released in France and Italy) in four volumes (book format, good paper,
sld at bookstores), about 3 years ago. It seems to have worked, since
they have started publishing Tezuka's mangas since.

Buddha was the next release (as "Buda", portuguese translation of the
name), about two years ago. Same format as the bio. It ran for about
15 volumes (not sure, will check at home) and was fairly sucessful, thus
proving that the more discerning bookstore buyers would be more
receptive to Tezuka's stuff than the newsstand buyers.

Now Conrad is publishing Adolf (same format as Buddha, also called
"Adolf"). Five volumes are planned, two have been published. I believe
they have plans for more Tezuka mangas afer that, but they clearly
aren't in a rush to publish everything Tezuka.

And that's it. Not much, huh?

Living in Portugal, I've access to the french editions and THEY seem to be
publishing every Tezuka under the sun, so I'm not paying much attention
to the brazilian editions. But I know what is being published there. If you
need help with that section of the website, I'll be glad to help!

Now that I'm at home, I found the data I wanted.

The brazilian edition of Buddha had 14 volumes. Here is the appropriate
webpage on the publisher's online catalog:
http://www.lojaconrad.com.br/MangasemLivros/Buda_-_Pacote_Completo_-_Vol_1_ao_14.asp

And here is the Princess Knight page on the other publisher catalog:
http://mangasjbc.uol.com.br/titulos/a-princesa-e-o-cavaleiro

Both include small cover images of the whole series!

That's excellent info. Next time I have time to work on the site I'll make an info page for Portugese manga. I'll let you know when it's up so you can double-check it.

Whenever you want, man. I'll do anything to help spread the awareness
of Tezuka's mangas out there!

Well, I've finally managed to get the Portuguese page up, with the info you gave me. Sorry that took so long, but I was working on a lot of other things:

Please let me know if you spot any errors, or if you have any new info.

Thanks for the help!

The last Adolf volume has been published in Brazil, the series is now complete!

Link for the publisher's site:

As far as I know, no new Tezuka books are planned in Brazil right now,
although the new, Tezuka-less edition of Astro Boy has been announced
by the brazilian branch of Panini.

At least a new Tezuka in portuguese!

This time it's in Portugal itself. Big portuguese publisher Edições Asa has started publishing Astro Boy, on an edition based on the classic Akita Shoten series and, specifically, the spanish Glénat version.

Here you can see the cover:

The publisher has also promised Princess Knight and a few other non-Tezuka manga (like Dragon Ball).
